Khalel Dosmukhamedov was a figure of the Alash movement, a physician, educator, and scholar.
Khalel Dosmukhamedov was a figure of the Alash movement, a physician, teacher, and scholar. Although he was a physician by profession, he was engaged in a wide range of public issues: he was a political and public figure, historian, naturalist, linguist, a man of letters who collected rare examples of oral literature, a propagandist, and a skilled translator.
Khalel was the first Turkologist of Kazakh origin. In 1923 he published an article titled “Diwani Lughat at-Turk” in issue 7 of the journal Sholpan. In this article he introduced Kazakh society to the great dictionary for the first time and defined the place of Mahmud al-Kashgari in history. He collected folk oral literature and published it in the press.
