Magzhan Bekenuly Zhumabayev was born in 1893 in the North Kazakhstan Region. An associate of the “Alash” movement, a remarkable Kazakh writer, poet, and publicist, and one of the founders of modern Kazakh literature. Having mastered Russian from an early age, he freely immersed himself in Russian literature and culture.
He first gained popularity thanks to the poetry collection “Sholpan,” published in 1912. The first stage of Zhumabayev’s creative path covers the period from 1910 to February 1917. The poet draws on the national liberation struggle in his works. His voice grows ever louder the more boldly the poet turns to history in his poems.
